Wow Wednesday

This weeks Wow moments, there were even some for the teachers!

Remembrance Day

Today we have been making poppies and talking about the meaning of Remembrance Day. We were very proud that the children sat so quietly during our 2 minutes silence.

Mastery in Maths

We have started using the mastery approach to learning mathematical skills in nursery. This begins with learning all about numbers, their position in the number system, what the number really means and how the number can be represented in different ways. We call this the ‘one-ness of one, the two-ness of two’ and so on.

We understand that this may seem very simple and that some children already have a good grasp of numbers. However this approach requires a deeper depth of understanding and that children are really secure before they advance to other learning.

We have been spotting the number and the word ‘one’ and also looking at different ways 1 can be represented.

We have sent home a worksheet about the number one that you may like to do with your child. Please don’t worry about sending them back to us and only do it if your child shows an interest.

Happy Diwali

We have had lots of fun this week learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali.

We have made some beautiful diva lamps that can be lit in your windows on Sunday (Diwali) to welcome Rama and Sita home.

We also tasted some really delicious Indian food and had a go at Bollywood dancing!

Wow Moments

We have loved sharing your children’s wow moments in a Wednesday. Don’t forget to keep sending in your child’s achievements at home.

Autumn Walk

We had a lovely time exploring our nature reserve today, looking for signs of autumn and collecting any litter we saw, like Pete the Badger in our story of the week “Tidy”. We are happy to report that we only found a few small pieces of rubbish!

But we did spot lots of leaves, some acorns, heard some birds and trains and even saw a helicopter this morning!

The children were really well behaved and followed instructions beautifully.

Thank you to our morning helpers for coming with us.

Adventure Time

We’ve been reading the book “A Little Bit Brave” this week, about a stay at home bunny who was scared of going on an adventure outside.

We decided to go on an adventure of our own, spotting signs of autumn. We explored the school grounds, sensory garden and then did some singing in the learning lodge.

Then, as a treat for filling up our marble jar, we enjoyed a picnic of chocolate cake!

Harvest and the Little Red Hen

This week we’ve been learning lots about harvest and have been reading the story of The Little Red Hen. We’ve been talking lots about how bread is made and today made some of our very own which smelled delicious. We also have an ongoing bread experiment to see how it changes over time. See if the children can tell you what’s happened so far.
Thank you so much for your harvest festival contributions which will all be passed onto The Bicester Food Bank to help those in need.
